State Senate Approves “The Valor Act”

Improving Benefits and Services for Veterans, Active Military and Families
BOSTON – The Massachusetts Senate on Thursday unanimously passed “The Valor Act” – new legislation that will expand benefits and increase access to a range of services for veterans, active-duty military and their families, Senator Katherine Clark announced.
“I am proud to support this omnibus veterans legislation that continues our strong tradition of supporting veterans and military families and will assist veterans and their families with employment, education and services,” said Senator Clark.  “The bill encompasses some of the best ideas presented by the veterans of the Commonwealth, the legislature, the Massachusetts National Guard, and the Department of Veterans’ Services.”
The bill works to help veterans and active military members improve business, educational and housing opportunities.… [more]

Valor Act, Supporting our Veterans

Last week the Massachusetts Senate passed the Valor Act, new legislation that will expand benefits and increase access to a range of services for veterans, active-duty military members and
their families.  The bill was sponsored by Senator Mike Rush (D, West Roxbury), a lieutenant in the United States Navy, who returned in December from a 10-month deployment to Iraq as an intelligence officer in the Navy Reserve.… [more]

Drug Shortages are Compromising Patient Health and Safety

Shortages of drugs for some types of cancer and other serious medical conditions are affecting the health and safety of patients in the Commonwealth.  Insufficient supplies are also driving up the costs of healthcare.  A “shadow” market now exists where scarce drugs are stockpiled and sold, legally, at a much higher price to hospitals desperate for these medicines.… [more]
