Katherine knows that it is small businesses that drive our local economy. She was the legislative leader to create the Commonwealthís first small business administration, which will provide assistance for citizens to pursue their own dreams and provide good jobs for our neighbors. Katherine is working to come up with solutions that will provide affordable health insurance to small business owners and their employees. Katherine has also been a champion for protecting the transportation systems that small businesses rely on. She is committed to making sure we have the structures in place so that our local businesses can take advantage of the coming economic recovery.
Strengthening Small Business
Katherine knows that supporting and strengthening small businesses is the key to creating local jobs and getting our economy back on track. She passed legislation that encourages start up businesses with a new low tax rate and brought back the sales tax holiday to help boost sales for local retailers. Katherine is a champion for transparency for tax credits, so we can ensure that we are investing in businesses that are creating jobs in our communities.

Katherine is a leading voice for creating jobs and economic growth. She invests in people by increasing funding for job training and local career centers to help get people back to work. She builds our future economy by investing in the life sciences and green technology will create jobs and allow us to compete in the global market.
Reducing the Costs of Business
Katherine provided critical relief to small business by fighting for legislation to lower health insurance costs so businesses are able to get back on their feet and create jobs. Katherine lowered the tax rate on capital gains to encourage investment and job growth. Katherine knows creating jobs is about creating opportunities, and that is why we need Katherine Clark as our next state senator.
Strong Public Schools
Katherine served on the Melrose School Committee for six years, fighting to get all children a great education even with shrinking resources. She is a champion for children with special needs and won legislator of the year from Citizens for Public Schools. As a public school mom of three, Katherine knows the importance of providing a quality education to every child. In the legislature, she has been committed to fair funding for our schools, so that every child can have the resources they need to succeed, no matter what community they live in.
Early Education: A Strong Start is Important
As General Counsel for the Office of Child Care Services, Katherine worked to give our children a strong start by creating a system of high quality, accessible, early care and education. As a former prosecutor, she knows the important role government plays in protecting our families. As a legislator, she has strengthened the protections for kids against bullying and our laws against domestic violence. She has also worked to pass legislation that takes the burden off families by providing insurance coverage for Autism treatment.
Keeping Families Safe
As a prosecutor and advocate for children, Katherine has seen up close the important role government plays in protecting our families. In past budget cycles, she has won funding to protect seniors and allow them to receive care in their own homes. This year she led the fight to make educators report bullying whenever it occurs, so that we can do a better job keeping our kids safe at school.

Katherine understands the challenges facing our seniors. Daily costs continue to rise, yet many seniors have no ability to meet these new demands. She is a champion for the programs that provide the security and dignity seniors deserve. Katherine Clark fights for programs that allow seniors to stay in their homes by reducing property tax and supporting homecare programs.
Katherine has expanded benefits for veterans, protected meals on wheels and held down the cost of prescription drugs.
Katherine fought for the Silver Alert Bill. This legislation created a critical alert system to help families of Alzheimerís sufferers when their loved one goes missing. Katherine advocates for grandparents who are raising their grandchildren. She protects the services that can be a life line to elders who are suffering abuse.
